Steam Train Coming to Rye

We are told that the Rail Touring Co have a steam special coming thru Winchelsea station on the 11th Nov, Armistice day. It should reach Rye by 11.10am so if admirers of steam were perhaps on the platform at Winchelsea station, by say 11.00am they should get some excellent photos. Then again maybe it will be late or it may snow who knows. This certainly assumes that the Ore Tunnel works have been completed by then.

The train will start from Victoria via Hastings to stop in Rye and turn round in Canterbury. On the way back it is hauled by a diesel! In fact the train will have steam at one end and diesel at the other (a precaution in case the steam fails, as has been known and also ease of turning the train round).

The picture depicts an earlier steam excursion passing Rye in 2020.
