It was fun on Thursday for trainspotters who had the opportunity to watch a restored steam engine and coaches travel through Rye on her way to London Victoria via Ashford. This brought back memories for some of us of travelling in such trains on the way to school or work.
A West Country class locomotive Braunton. It was actually being pushed by a venerable old diesel engine at the back, but there was a good old fashioned smell in the air and the traditional coaches were serving dinner. It was very good to see, some people pointed out that in the 1950s there were a number of through trains to Victoria via Ashford, long before High Speed.
