Industrial action affecting Southern services
The members of the RMT Union are planning to take strike action on various dates in the upcoming months. These include:
- Tuesday 22 November and Wednesday 23 November
- Tuesday 6 December to Thursday 8 December
- Thursday 22 December to Saturday 24 December
- Saturday 31 December to Monday 2 January
If these strikes go ahead they will have a significant effect on Southern services.
Travel advice for the strike dates up to and including Thursday 8 December, including details of the services Southern are running on those weekdays, is available here.
Southern are still finalising their plans for the strike dates over the Christmas period, and you are strongly advised to check back later before making any travel arrangements on these dates.
Thameslink, Southern and Gatwick Express will accept each other’s tickets on the strike days. Any tickets that are normally valid on other routes (such as Oyster on the Tube) will continue to be valid as usual.

The Journey Planner is currently showing the normal service for the other planned strike dates, and NOT the strike service.
You may be entitled to compensation if you experience a delay in completing your journey today. Please keep your train ticket and make a note of your journey, as both will be required to support any claim.
