New hybrid trains for the MarshLink line

In November 2015 at a public meeting, David Scorey of Southern said he had had discussions about retro-fitting Electrostars with diesel engines so they could operate in a hybrid fashion along the MarshLink line. This would help alleviate the current overcrowding on the line by being able to operate 4-car units and be an interim measure before, hopefully, a Javelin service is introduced.

It was recognised that this new development would take time to develop and then certify. When pressed, Mr. Scorey thought it would take about 18 months from then.

We would like to know how this strategy is progressing.
